What The Bible Teaches About REDEMPTION and SALVATION

REDEMPTION (Divine Recovery)

He is so rich in kindness that He purchased our freedom through the blood of His Son, and our sins are forgiven. (Eph. 1:7).

You were not redeemed with corruptible things...but with the precious blood of Christ (I Peter 1:18-19).

All praise to Him who loves us, and has freed us from our sins by shedding His blood for us. He has made us His kingdom and His priests who serve before God his Father (Rev 1:5-6).

Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22).

Made peace through the blood of His cross (Colossians 1:20).

This man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God... For by one offering He perfected forever them al those whom He is making Holy (Hebrews 10:12, 14).

SALVATION (Divine Freedom)

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved

But to all those who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12).

There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust Him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God.

(John 3: 18).

And all those who believe in God's Son have eternal life. Those who don't obey the Son will never experience eternal life, but the wrath of God remains upon them. (John 3:36)

He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:5).

God saved you by His special favor when you believed. And you can; it is gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. (Eph. 2:8-9).

For Christ has accomplished the whole purpose of the law. All who believe in Him are made right with God. (Romans 10:4).

Turn to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other (Isaiah 45:22).

And He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist (Acts 17:26-28).

All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him (Isaiah 53:6).

For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:7-8).

God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them (2 Corinthians 5:19).

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. (Jn 3:16_

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works hat no one should boast (Ephesians 2:89).

For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. But the Scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe (Galatians 3:21-22).

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes (Romans 10:4).

There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins (Hebrews 10:4).

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according Christ (Colossians 2:8)

Jesus said to them, " no one comes to the Father, but through Me"

God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead (Acts 17:31).

It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18).

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).

We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8)

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:2).

Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment  (John 5:28-29).

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ

For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth (Isaiah 65:17).

And there shall no longer be any curse (Revelation 22:3).

He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowards and unbelieving . . . their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).

And who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (I John 5:5).

How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? (Heb.2:3).

What Other Religions Teach About REDEMPTION And SALVATION

Christian Science

REDEMPTION

Jesus aided in reconciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love and this redeems man from the law of matter, sin, and death by the law of the Spirit (SH, 19:6-10).

Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father(SH, 18:3-4).

The efficacy of the crucifixion lay in the practical perfection and goodness it demonstrated for mankind (SH, 24:2728).

Atonement is the exemplification of man's unity with God.(SH, 18: 12).

One sacrifice, however great, is insufficient to pay the debt of sin (SH, 23:3-4).

The way to escape the misery of sin is to cease sinning. There is no other way (SH, 327:1213).

SALVATION

The material blood of Jesus was no more efficacious to cleanse from sin when it was shed upon the accursed tree than when flowing in his veins as he went daily about his Father(SH, 25:69).

Salvation is Life, Truth, and Love understood and demonstrated as supreme over all, sin, sickness, and death destroyed (SH, 593:2022).

Sin, sickness, and death must be deemed as devoid of reality as they are of good, God (SH, 525:28, 29).

To get rid of sin through Science, is to divert sin of any supposed mind or reality, and never to admit that sin can have intelligence or power, pain or pleasure. You conquer error by denying its verity (SH, 339:28-31).

Jesus taught the way of Life by demonstration. There is but one way to heaven; harmony and Christ in Divine Science shows us this way (SH, 242:9-10).

New Age Spiritism

REDEMPTION

There is no atoning value in the death of Jesus Christ (Childs, Whatever Is, Is Right).

Salvation by vicarious atonement is a wicked and soul destroying delusion (Ethics of Spiritualism, p. 99).

Teaches the continuity of life and the eternal progression of man toward perfection in the spirit realm.

That every soul will progress through the ages to heights sublime and glorious, where God is Love and Love is God (

There are not two worlds at all, there (is) but one inter blended, interrelated world, closely interwoven by memory and the love of life. Consciousness could not die. Personality could not be destroyed (Bach, They Have Found a Faith, P. 116).

Life on the spirit plane is evolvement, like the ascent in a spiral, the growth of moral affection to higher and higher "heavens".

SALVATION

We affirm the moral responsibility of the individual, and that he makes his own happiness or unhappiness as he obeys or disobeys Nature's physical and spiritual laws.

Man becomes a spirit after death, doing both evil and good, but he may be saved as he progresses from one spirit level to the next. We affirm that the doorway to reformation is never closed against any human soul, here or hereafter (Declaration of Principles, Nos. 7 and 8).

Leaving the physical body does not change the condition of the spirit, which is the actual personality. It must learn to desire and to progress to higher and better conditions, just as we do on earth (SM, p. 182).

Each must work out his own salvation; each has an equal opportunity to do this when he shall have atoned for the wrongs and overcome the temptations and allurements to the sense gratification of earth life (SM, p. 184).

Even the most degraded personality can in time attain the greatest heights. It is easier, however, to begin progression in the earth life (SM, p. 184).

Jehovah Witnesses

REDEMPTION AND SALVATION

Adam is not included in those ransomed. He had perfect life and this he deliberately forfeited (LC, p. 119).

Jesus Christ laid down in sacrifice a perfect HUMAN LIFE, equal to that which Adam forfeited (You May Survive Armageddon, p. 39).

The ransom, or redemptive price with which redemption is made, is "the man Christ Jesus".

His perfect human life with all its rights and prospects, was laid down in death, but NOT FOR SIN AND IN PUNISHMENT (LG, p. 116). (Jesus was raised a divine spirit creature.)

That which is redeemed or bought back is perfect human life with its rights and earthly prospects (LG, p. 114).

The value of the perfect human life was now available for use on behalf of faithful men (LG, p. 116).

Thus, makes possible general resurrection for mankind with opportunity for eternal life (MS, p. 411).

The Bible plainly shows that 144,000 will share in heavenly glory, while the others will enjoy the blessings of life down here on earth (LG, p. 298).

All who by reason of faith in Jehovah God and in Christ Jesus dedicate themselves to do God's will and then faithfully carry out their dedication will be rewarded with everlasting life (LG, p. 298).

An unnumbered crowd of faithful persons do not expect to go to heaven. They have been promised everlasting life on earth if they prove their faithfulness (LG, p. 231), by faith in Jehovah's baptism, "provided . . .they abide in him, keeping their good conscience through faith and loyal service"(NH, p. 311).

Armageddon survivors and the mass of humankind will find life here on earth amid paradise conditions (LG, p. 279).

It is a gross twisting of the Scriptures to throw Jesus' words of John 3:3 to make them embrace all mankind (The Watchtower, Nov. 15, 1954, p. 681). This "great crowd" of people are not "born again" nor do they need to be "born again" because they gain everlasting life on the earth(Ibid., p. 682)

Mormonism

REDEMPTION AND SALVATION

We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel (AF, 3).

The first principles and ordinances of the gospel are: Faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; repentance; baptism by immersion for the remission of sins and laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost (AF, 4).

Even the unbeliever, the heathen, and the child who dies before reaching the years of discretion, all are redeemed by the Savior(Talmage, p. 58).

Included are (DC, 29:23-25).

The resurrection of the body (of every living thing) is one of the victories achieved by Christ through His atoning sacrifice (Talmage, p. 58).

They who believe not your words, and are not baptized in water in my name, for the remission of their sins . . . shall be damned (DC, 84:74).

Baptism is . . . the very gateway into the kingdom of heaven, an indispensable step in our salvation and exaltation (Bennett, Why I Am a Mormon, p. 124).

Baptism by proxy for the dead is a major activity. Plan of Salvation, p. 8)..

Celestial marriage is the gate to an exaltation in the highest heaven within the celestial world (McConkie, MD, P. 118).

Those who attain the highest sphere, the Celestial, will (MD, p. 257).

The second sphere, the Terrestrial, will be inhabited by (MD, p. 784).

EASTERN RELIGIONS

Buddhism

REDEMPTION AND SALVATION

Buddhism sees ignorance rather than sin as the roadblock to salvation That is, the belief that the world and self truly exist keeps the illusory wheel of existence rolling; only destruction of that belief will stop the mad course of the world.

Its doctrine is summed up in the Four Noble Truths: (I) life is basically suffering, or dissatisfaction, (2) the origin of that suffering lies in craving or grasping; (3) the cessation of suffering is possible through the cessation of craving; and (4) the way to cease craving and so attain escape from continual rebirth is by following Buddhist practice, known as the Noble Eightfold Path.

Original Buddhist teaching and the Therevada place emphasis on the individual monk working through self-control and a series of meditative practices that progressively lead him to lose a sense of his grasping self.

The Mahayana school began with the insight that the ideal of the monk striving only for his own salvation was selfish and did little for the majority of men. Mahayanists eventually came to posit a vast number of Buddhas and bodhisattvas, "heroes of the faith" who reached the point of nirvana but refused to enter it until the rest of mankind was brought along with them. To varying degrees they can graciously grant aids to salvation to those who petition them.

Nirvana literally means "blowing out," as with the flame of a candle. That is, nothing can be said about it except that it is a transcendent, permanent state.

Hinduism

REDEMPTION AND SALVATION

The final goal of salvation in Hinduism is escape from the endless round of birth, death, and rebirth. That can mean an eternal resting place for the individual personality in the arms of a loving, personal God, but it usually means the dissolving of all personality into the unimaginable abyss of Brahman.

Four yogas, or ways of reaching such salvation, are described: (I) jnana yoga, the way of knowledge, employs philosophy and the mind to comprehend the unreal nature of the universe; (2) bhakti yoga, the way of devotion or love, reaches salvation through ecstatic worship of a divine being (3) karma yoga, the way of action, strives toward salvation by performing works without regard for personal gain; and (4) raja yoga,

Most Hindus consider that they have many incarnations ahead of them before they can find final salvation, although some sects believe that a gracious divinity will carry them along the way more quickly.

Islam

SALVATION AND THE AFTERLIFE

The Koran rejects the notion of redemption; salvation depends on a man.

The final day of reckoning is described in awesome terms. On that last day every man will account for what he has done, and his eternal existence will be determined on that basis:

Muslims recognize that different individuals have been given different abilities and various degrees of insight into the truth. Each man will be judged according to his situation, and every man who gives according to the truth to the best of his abilities will achieve heaven. However, infidels (Christians, Jews, etc.) who are presented with the truth of Islam and reject it will be given no mercy.

The Koran has vivid descriptions of both heaven and hell. Heaven is depicted in terms of worldly delights, and the torments of hell are shown in lurid detail. Muslims disagree as to whether those descriptions are to be taken literally or not.
